SOAPBOX:

K3RLL - K3 and 90 degree VizBug to HOA restricted black vertical put up only after dark. Bands sounded refreshingly good this evening. Both contacts and RBN signals have been a lot stronger but absence of noise or digital QRM made for a very pleasant hour. Thanks for the contacts. 72/73 ... Don .

K1IX - Split between 40 & 80m. Used newly built Hi-Per Mite audio filter and it worked fantastic. Tnx QSO's 72 Frank .

AK3X - Only time for two contacts. Spent the rest of the time participating (unsuccessfully) in the 40 meter QRP Foxhunt. 72 to all, Peter

N8HWV - Bands were working tonight. Late start so ran out of time. Always fun.

K4BAI - Wanted to watch NCIS on TV and had to be a QRP Fox on 40M beginning at 0200Z. Came in shack about 20 minutes until 0200Z and found 40M practically dead. A few high power and DX signals. No NA calls heard then. Went to 80M and found a few signals there and worked K4JPN. During the Fox Hunt I heard W1PQO and AA5LH calling CQ NA on 40M. Look for me beginning tomorrow from the island of Bonaire in the Caribbean as PJ4/K4BAI and in ARRL DX CW next weekend as PJ4A. 73/72, John.

N5GW - KX3, rake tine straight key & pair of CFZ's. All three bands were in rather poor shape: 20 sounded dead, 40 had sparse weak sigs, and 80 suffered from static crashes plus QSB. However turnout seemed OK, allowing 9 Q's on 40 and 16 Q's on 80. Before long maybe 20 will be open. CU all next month.

KQ1P - Skunked by QSB and QRN!

AJ8S - I had fun. 80 meters seemed to be the best band, others were quiet. Apologies to those I could not copy and thanks to those who had to make repeats. 73 to all.

K4WLW - I was surprised how bad 40m was last night here in FL. I knew 20m would be closed, but thought 40m would be the band. Nope. No joy at all on 40m. 80m was NOISY. It sounded like summer storms. But I managed to get a few Q's. Thanks for working me. KX3 to an EFHW Sloper. QRPGuys KX Single Lever key. Hope to work ya'll next month. 72 - Bill

VE1AHX - Just a half hour, and only 3 QSOs, but fun in spite of high QRN .

KN1H - Thanks for another fun sprint! Perfect thing to do while the snow is piling up outside. Was plagued by QSB on 40, lost WB5UAA part way through QSO and never heard him again. Sorry, Guy! Things were much better on 80. 73, John, KN1H

WB2LQF - I used my new LNRprecision MTR3B Mountain Topper on 40m tonight with a 9 volt transistor battery. Made only one contact - K2YGM/4 but he was really banging in here with his 33' wire in a palm tree. Heard many other stations but noise and QSB pretty much ruined the evening. THe MTR3B is quite sensitive but I discovered it's certainly a far cry from my TS-890S. All those knobs really DO mean something on a radio. The little radio just couldn't isolate and focus signals in a crowded band. I was calling CQ NA and getting answers but couldn't copy through the noise and QSB to make more contacts. I know my teeny signal on the 9 volt battery was being heard in TX and TN. We'll give it another shot under more favorable conditions.

KB1GEO - first cw sprint or contest. great introduction to a cw sprint or contest. no qso but it wasn't for the lack of trying mike

N0AR - Almost 20" of new snow in the last ten days must of brought conditions back! I haven't heard the band so good in years! Lots of qrn and some TS crashes but overall great! Used the 590sg and muffs to keep the room heater noise out. Old novice key only came loose on the spring once. :) 72's Scott N0AR nr St.Paul MN

K4RHG - Late start and troubles in the shack, so only one QSO this time. Conditions seemed good though on 40 meters.

W8BUD - Thanks to all that worked me had great time 40 was really down for me 80 was my best band just getting my feet wet hear as a newb for the sprints wil try to improve on my mistakes logging 72 to all Bud W8BUD #1243 KX3 with 5 watts

WB8ENE - Spent over 1/2 hour in the sprint and only made one contact on 40. Thanks W4HH. Heard a couple others, including one on 80, but I currently don't have an antenna for 80 meters. Look to do something about that when the weather permits. 73, Art

WB4OMM - Pretty noisy here on the Florida East Coast! I quit after an hour from the crackles and hash. But worked both corners of the North US! Thanks to W6OAT and W1PQO that stayed with me to make the contact. FT-2000 at 5W with GenLog and ZN-9Z paddle. 72/73 to all, see you next month! Steve WB4OMM

N8XMS - A morning ice storm followed by a power outage and additional rain during the day probably contributed to the horrible band noise levels that I had. I could only stand it for about 30 minutes and my ears are still ringing!

WB8LZG - Hello Fellow sprinters! I fired up the FTdx1200 agn last night. I didn't hv much time to devote to the sprint. 40 was kinda quiet at start. went to 80 and got a couple QSOs. Then went back to 40 es it was picking up after the 1st 1/2 hr. See you all next sprint. 73 Gregg

W4HH - On 40 heard dozen stations QRM QSB could not dig anyone out of the mud. .

K7MK - Rough out here in the west again. A few stations right at my noise level, but couldn't pull them out. Thanks and 73. .

KD0V - Conditions were very poor again.

W9CC - Very noisy. My ears are now on crutches! Using my Boston spark key. Fun!

KD3CA - Conditions were pretty good for me , Band a bit QSB and QRN ,. Worked all on 80 mtrs. Many thanks to all that called , I'm sorry to those I just couldn't pull out of the noise. 73 to all , Don

K4KBL - Tough going tonight with static crashes and high noise level. Seems I had a pipe line into CO with 4 in a row from that fine state. Hope all had a good time !! .

AA9L - Slim pickens on 40 so went to 80 and made a few contacts with the bug. Still haven't mastered it. 73 Rich AA9L

N2CN - I think I had ice on my antenna, because SWR on 20 and 40 was wonky, but 80 was great. I worked some members who I don't remember ever working before. .

AC6ZM - This was my 1st NAQCC Sprint! Thanks to all the members that tolerated my request for repeats. Conditions were fairly quiet on 80 mtrs which made it fun to work qrp. After working the AZ station ON 40 mtrs, I quickly shifted to 80 and started to run. It turned out ot be a decent run. Shame on the QRO folks that think you can't make contacts on QRP in a low sunspot cycle. I look forward to participating in future sprints and working on completing the challenge puzzles. You can find me most weeknight evenings trolling at 3.555 +/- a few KC's looking for qrp contacts. Thanks for all the Q's tonight. 73 de AC6ZM

WB7EUX - Thanks for the three qso I made.

W2JEK - Poor conditions last night. Only 5 QSO in the first hour. Better in second hour. Rig Yaesu FT-840 at 5W to end fed wire. SPEEDX straight key. Had a good time. 72/73 DON W2JEK

WB1GYZ - How bad were conditions? 28 minutes between two contacts, and with one I'm not even sure of confirmation. K2YGM/4 best sig heard...what's the secret?

WA1GWH - Skip was long from here near Syracuse, NY. Was using a 1/4 wave inverted L over a decent ground system instead of my dipole at 15 ft. Did not hear the usual closer in stations but instead TX, CO, FL, MS. Propagation or my switch of antennas? 72, Garry

WK4WC - Conditions were not good to say the least. One contact is better than none!

NF8M - Got on for the 2nd hour and found cndx quiet on 40, made 1 QSO then discovered the party had moved to 80. Lots of QSB and some thunder crackle. Couldn't buy a QSO in the last 20 min.

AL7JK - Didnt hear or work any stns during the sprint, regardless of band condx, I gotta try. 73 to all. .

WT4U - Open inductor antennas in the rain, plus the electrical noise of an RV park made me deaf and dumb. I had high hopes for working from a saltwater shore, but no one heard me and I wasn't even hearing other NA stations when I could keep the antenna resonate on 40m for a few minutes. Arghh.

KE4QZB - HELLO! This was my 1st Sprint as a NAQCC member! What a thrill, thanks to all the operators that pulled me out. I was running my old S&S Engineering ARK-4 transceiver from 1996, four watts, and a low inverted vee. Just amazed at what QRP does! I love it! Look forward to doing more sprints this year and even trying the milliwatt sprints! 72's....KE4QZB

VA3NU - Terrible QRN and deep QSB on 80 tonite. However lots of strong signals at times made this a good sprint. 72 VA3NU .

WB5UAA - Been a while since I've participated. Ran my homebrew 6L6 for this sprint in preparation for the challenge next month. Crystal controlled, 5 watts out. Sorry for the stations calling who I couldn't pick out of the noise. See you next month. 72 Guy WB5UAA

N3LPJ - I had very good conditions here but with a few other things going on I didn't stay in as long as I wanted. I was only in for the first hour. I had a great time though. I'll be glad to work you guys next month or sooner. 73 de N3LPJ

KC0DD - MAN IT WAS FUN ONLY 2ND TIME FOR ME EXCEPT MW SPRINT IN 2016. KJ4R WAS VERY PATIENT QRM GOT REALLY BAD BUT HE STAYED WITH ME HE IS A COOL DUDE TX ED LITTLE 817ND GOT A WORKOUT .

VE3DQN - Tuesday's snow storm prevented me from operating at my "other" station with full-length dipoles up 40ft (at my daughter's rural residence). A 45-minute exercise in frustration at my home station netted 3 QSO's. Called many of you, but you didn't hear me. Mny tnx to the 3 who did :-)

KA2KGP - 20m. was dead, 40 & 80 were weak with QSB/QRM. Rig: TenTec Argosy II at 5w. into G5RV up 25 ft. 73 to all

WD4OHD - Some good activity on 80m. Not so much on 40m from my location. Thanks to all.

K4JPN - Tried 20M and 40M, but nothing heard, 80M was hopping. 72 Steve K4JPN

KC7DM - On both 40 and 80, signals were long and strong into OR tonight.

AB8RL - All contacts on 80 for the sprint - rig Elecraft K3S pulled out the weak signals using a full size wire 80 meter vertical in a tree - really works well. Lot of fun - glad to participate - got a late start

W1PQO - Lots of static crashes tonight from the storm made for challenges reception tonight! I'm beginning to get the hang of the sprints now that I have done a few.

WB9HFK - Got home from a meeting late and I had just enough time to get on the air and make 2 QSO's. I'm looking forward to next month and hopefully a full-time effort. 72, Mark WB9HFK

WZ0W - I almost missed this month! I came down to the shack and heard some CQ NA calls. I made the last half. 80m was pretty noisy tonight, but I did about as well as i usually do in the full two hours.

W4QO - Loads of fun. Don't enter often and tonight only for 1 hour. KX3 at 5 watts. 80M horiz LOOP at 75'. Straight key: DK7UD mini key

W4NLT - Heard nothing on 20, 40 was weak. More action on 80 but very noisy. Heard more than I could work.

KB0ETU - All contacts made on 80 meters. Heard nothing on 40 or 20 meters. Thanks guys (and gals) for participation. See you next time. 72, Phil

K1IEE - Both 40M and 80M heard very few signals. We had some very strong winds last few days maybe time to check my long wire ant. Did work my friend Walt KB1M and was nice to work Don in FL K3RLL as well as others. Thanks to all and 73 Dick .

W2SH - 20m dead. An approaching warm front made 40m very noisy, but with a long skip zone I easily worked KC7DM more than two kilomiles distant. 80m was also noisy but most signal strengths overcame it. Used a Tentec 539 (Argo 6) and a Junker straight key.

K2YGM/4 - Hi guys. I'm wintering in Florida in an HOA with antenna restrictions. Best I could do was a wire in the nearby Palm Tree 33 ft long and one radial wire on the ground. The water conductivity here is excellent and I get out very well from here, especially on 40M.. Thanks to all that answered my CQ. Worked everyone I could hear. 72 from West Palm Beach. Bob K2YGM

WG8Y - Hi all, Very slow start on 40m. Picked up with some gud Signals on 80m. Had a QSO with a fellow running 300W. He was Q5 COPY Hi Hi.Stopped 15 min. early to tend to my wife who has been battling an illness. Thanks all for being there. 72 all from N.C. Mark WG8Y

KE5YUM - My 96th sprint. Band conditions were really bad. I heard very few signals in my allotted time for the sprint and could only work one. Thanks to WA1GWH for working me amidst all the noise. FT 817 at 5 watts and Vibroplex Vibrokeyer. .

WX4RM - Heavy QRN here tonight in the mountains. Static levels much higher than the signals being received.

N4OW - Only on the last half hour or so. Heard no stations on 40. N2CN Answered a CQ. 80 swamped with PLASMA RFI. I will try better next month. 72 AL, N4ow 7700

K5GQ - DID NOT hear ANY stations - called CQ and GOT a reply 40M . Went to 80 with NVIS ant - heard a station - he said he was running 100 w; great copy. then he dropped out. .

N3CKI - To much noise and fading. A lot of the ops I heard I could not copy.

N4MJ - Bands have been in bad shape the past few months and not getting any better. Only had 1 Q on 40, heard a few more but they never responded to my calls. This is typical as I have experienced it several times on 40m during Fox hunts recently. BTW tonight's Fox hunt was a SKUNK - never heard a Fox and only 1 Hound. Decided to try 80 for the Sprint and it was in much better shape than 40m. Thanks to all participants. If I didn't work ya it is because I didn't hear ya. hi hi 73 de n4mj .

W3TTT - Had only a half hour. I used my new QRP Labs QCX 40 cw transceiver. Sent cq for 30 minutes. Only one station came back. Waiting for next month.

NO2D - Same nite as Fox Hunt. Managed to work both. Always enjoy the NAQCC sprints. Signals tonite not strong for either the Fox Hunt or the NAQCC, but managed to make some of each. Thanks to those that make the NAQCC sprints possible. Pete, NO2D. .

KB1M - 40 was open mostly to the gulf coast states FL,GA,AL,MS. Nothing heard on 20. Started the sprint unenthusiastic but after a couple of QSO's from QRPer friends and new to me calls, I ended up with a big grin from the fun evening. 72/73, Walt
