SOAPBOX:
K3WWP - Condx pretty good tonight, but I'm kind of in the rut of getting one QSO then QRT to keep my participation going another month.
K3RLL - Interesting propagation this evening. Lots of action on 20m but N5GW (with strongest signal on the band) was the only station that didn't fade away. RBN spots from Europe were good however!
Gave up and went down to 4Om where I felt fortunate to work the 4 stations I could hear. K3JZD had biggest signal of the night. 72, ... Don
KC2MJT - 20 was full of signals stacked on two frequencies. Difficult to pick out the winner. 40 very noisy. Pulled plug after half and hour. Little flying teeth and humidity became unbearable. See you next month.
AB9BZ - Operated my TruSdx from the hotel parking lot in Dayton OH. Thanks for the sprint. 72 Dave ab9bz
K4KBL - Overall poor conditions here in GA for first hour of operation. Stated on 20 with only 2 contacts then to 40 with ground wave for many contacts. Static crashes ran me away after first hour. Few signals heard as well. August will be a better month !!
KD0V - The Sprint started off very well until 20m died at 0100Z at this location. The QRN on 40m was S9+. TNX everyone for the nice contacts.
K1YAN - Lots of QRN and QSB on 40 tonight. Didn't hear a lot of signals and after about an hour of QRN packed it in. My CQ NA got me 3 SKCC calls in addition to the NAQCC guys.
AB4QL - I managed to jump in for an hour. QSB was awful, good ops could still stick with it and get the exchange.
Thanks all,
Barry
N3CAA - Condx were quite bad this month. Called CQ on 20m a few times and think I had a call, but couldn't dig the callsign out due to QSB. Switched to 40m, where there was a S7+ noise floor this evening. TNX for the QSOs I did have. Hopefully better condx for next month.
KW2A - Always great fun. Thanks to everyone who did numerous repeats so I could hear you over the thunderstorm noise. Ran the whole Sprint with an FT-817 on rechargeable NiMH AA batteries. Surprised they held up for 2 hours of calling CQ.
VE3DQN - For the short time I could be on conditions seemed pretty good. Would have been a good evening to operate longer if I'd been able to.
KC5F - Surprisingly good conditions here, considering 80m was full of static and I didn't hear tons of folks on 20m. Fun, as always. Thanks, all!
WA4AAK - Bands were noisy in North Alabama. No success on 20m or 80m, so all contacts were on 40m. Thanks to all who pulled my signal through the racket. 72, Evan WA4AAK
K9QEW - Started on 20m but soon QSY to 40m. Good activity but some
QRN/QSB. Managed to make one QSO using my HB rockbound FUNMITTER! (W2SH) 72/73s & STAY TUNED Daryl
K9NUD - I was excited about tonight's sprint because of my new antenna, which performed great. Sadly, we had nearby storms, so the QRN was pretty rough. Sorry to those I could not pull out of the crashes! KX3 @ 5W to an 80M EFHW up 40'
VA3WGX - Ugh. S8 QRN!
VA3KRJ - Conditions challenging tonight but always fun. Thanks to all who made contact!
72.
K9PM - Fun Sprint for me and my first in a very long time. Made all my contacts on 20m. Noise level was S9 on 40m & 80m. I could hear the East Coast in the noise on 40m but poor copy. 72 de K9PM Paul
KN2G - Sorry for the dupe on K3JZD, Merlin. I am attempting to learn the logging program. Tonight I learned that there is a dupe line (too late). I also learned that eating a big piece of watermelon is a not a good idea before a sprint!!! Loved those staic crashes on 80.....
W1BLU - QRN was less than I expected tonight. 20 died out early so I spent the rest of the night on 40. Thanks for the fun, all of you!
K3JZD - Nice calm evening on 40m. The band was pretty short, but typical for whenever we have a high sunspot numbers. At least no blackout or noise from solar storms. K2 and Dipole. 73, Jody - K3JZD
WG8Y - Hi all, Started a few minutes late. Then the phone rang. Made my first Q while still on the phone.Hi Hi Made a few more S&P Q's and pulled the plug. Long day.
72 from N.C. Mark WG8Y
VE2KZW - A very pleasant evening. According to RBN, from southwestern QC, my 20m signal was getting well into Germany and Austria, and as far south as Uruguay at 5530 miles, my longest distance at 5 watts. The BuddiPole and the KX2 make a great pair. 40m was noisy but I made a few contacts; even made one on 80m. I am glad I participated. Thanks all and 72, Robert, VE2KZW.
W1TM - This was a hard night. Very week signals and noisy band.
K1IX - Late start but plenty of activity and band pretty good. Tnx for the Q's cuagn
K1MZM - Lots of QSB tonight here in muddy Vermont. I am grateful for everyone's patience in coping with less than optimal conditions. Our little town was devastated by the flood over the last week but over 20% of the local citizens have volunteered to help clean up the mess that was left behind the storms.
VE3IIM - 20M was disappointing, 40 was ok though. I'll be back next month!
K4BAI - 20 was quite good to New England, Ontario, W2/3. W7 and W0/ 40M was noisy and a lot of guys had a hard time copying me. Tried 80M around 0200Z and found no NA callers there and no answers to my CQs. Seemed to me that participation was down this month. Thanks for all QSOs.
K2OID - 40 was great at start but seemed to fade later on. Some QRN from thunder storms. Fun as always!
VE6VIC - Band conditions seemed poor but good training for weak signals. Always fun!
WX4RM - 20M and 40M were the bands that cooperated tonight, though QRN and QSB made it tough to be heard. Thanks to all who participated in the contest, I look forward to these every month.
K2CWM - Thank you for the contacts...
DK1VD - woke up this morning the conditions on 40m were bad noise and strong commercial signals.
On 20m it was normal less noise and two stations in log TU Back to 40m big signals were gone :-)) and one station in log special thanks to KC3MIO for his patience. And sprint was fun again
NN3E - Thanks everyone for the QSO's
72 NN3E
W8GG - Hello Fellow Sprinters! Condx were perty gud last night fer the hour i was on. 20 was open but sigs were not very strong es QSB made copy difficult. 40 was better but a bit noisy. Had a nice run on 40 calling CQ, ntting 16 QSOs in 25 minutes. went back to 20 to find K9PM still there. Had to pull plug early cuz i was whooped. Big day wid family. SRI to several of u who were calling me on 40m. Many sigs just above the noise. Also many times i had several answers to my CQ's and the stronger sig would get the QSO. Nice to work several Canadians tonight too Eh! Had a great time poundin da brass, See u all next month. 73 Gregg W8GG
WB8ENE - Thought I'd start off on 20 meters since it was still light out, but I only managed to make one contact. Switched to 40 meters, and stayed there for the rest of the hour I participated in the sprint. There were several strong signals, especially from Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Illinois. Rig is Elecraft K3. Thanks for the contacts. 73, Art
WA4ZOF - Great Time QSB & QRN Nice to work Manfred DK1VD wd strong 559 sigs.
Tnx to all Tom WA4ZOF
KA2KGP - A couple QSO's on 20m. but most were on 40m. as 80m. was QRN. Rig: IC-7000 at 5w into a G5RV up 25 ft. w/ old WWII German Junkers straight key. 73
WB9HFK - 40M only. QRN and QSB a challenge - but, always a fun time! Thanks for the Q's and see everyone next time! 72, Mark WB9HFK
KD3CA - Band's here were QRN and QSB Did manage to make contact's on 3 bands. TNX to all for the call's.
73 to all Don
KK4ITX - Got started late, found 20m in terrible shape. 40m as noted by many was full of QRN/QSB, with a hearing problems that makes for a long night. Heard many others but according to what they say above, they too had same problems. Great to be able to work from the campground this year.
KN1H - Camping at Groton State Forest in Vermont this week. 40 and 20 sounded good but could only get a couple of stalwarts to hear me on 40. 20 was somewhat better. Always fun to throw together a portable op even when it doesn't work great!72, John, KN1H/1 VT. KX2, Electrovoice Straight Key.
N4MJ - Another fun evening. Glad to see 20m was open for a while.
KC3MIO - With warm weather, decided to operate from my deck with Icom 705 @ 5W, using 65' EFHW 40' - 20". No tuner needed on 20 & 40, but won't work 80, so if 40 goes dead, I'm done. After 5 QSOs on 20, 40 stayed good until the curtain came down. Highlight was working Fred DK1VD and he was more patient than me as it took me minutes to realize he was not K1VD. BTW, I'm looking for N3A operators for our anniversary in October - see the newsletter. Thanks to all.
N5GW - 20M was in fair shape except for intermittent QSB. 40 was a bit noisy this time of year but with many good QRP signals.
AA5LH - Surprises never end (at least in Ham Radio). As in past Sprints, I start out on 20M. All QSO's were either very strong or barely copyable. That went for distance from the QTH. Mostly East Coast Q's with one lone CA (W6IRA) at 0154z. On 40M, to many static crashes from passing storms. However enjoy all of them. Take care.
AK3X - Late start and major interruptions. Finally gave up. Lots of noise on 40.
WT4U - Good Sprint. 40 noisy as expected, and nothing heard on 80m.
KI4MZC/9 - I operated portable from IN, the first time operation portable out of my local area in GA. The table I had the radio and keyer on was a little shaky so thanks for putting up with my shaky sending. Antenna was a about a 45' length of wire coming from an unun on a stake about 3' high sloping up to a portable drive-on mast about 30' at the top. Not a great location here with utilities on three sides and a lot of noise, but I did ok on 40m. 72/73
W2SH - 20m was open during the first half hour with a
medium skip zone. At the start of the second
hour it was open this time with a long skip zone, and I clearly heard two west coast
stations, but failed to achieve QSOs. 40m
was active with a skip zone out to 800 miles.
80m was full of QRN and no signals could be
heard.
N8LA - KX-3; 5 Watts; 200' Dipole up 35'; NAQCCode Warrior with W8GG finger pieces wired as dual paddle side swiper by AD0BI. Bands were giving me a lot of static, the way many people do, but a number of stations answered my 20-meter CQs. Worked about the same number on 40 through the static. Thanks to all who worked me and apologizes to those who I couldn't pull out or who couldn't pull me out. All the best to All. Lou, N8LA
