K3RLL - K3 and c~1960 E.F. Johnson SpeedX bug to wet string up over my garage roof. Amazing what 900 mW will do with such a poor excuse for an antenna. Thanks for 15 minutes of great fun tonight. 72 ... Don
KK0DJ - First NAQCC Sprint! Was glad to get a few on 40 but the QRN was awful! Switched to 80 and heard a lot of crickets... and some who couldn't hear me calling CQ and began calling on top of me... ahhh... QSY indeed I did! LOL
WB4OMM - Looked for signals for almost and hour - nothing on 20M, some rally faint stuff on 40M (but not much of it), nothing on 80M. And the noise level was off the chain! (I kicked my attenuator in at -18dB!) After almost an hour, I decided to call CQ. Nothing for about 10 mins, then got five Qs back to back - faint at first, then like a burst for a few minutes, then went away again.....nothing! I decided to take my meager winnings and run! KX-3 running .9W to a G5RV at 35 feet, Speed-X straight key. Still had fun! 72/73 to all, see you next month! Steve WB4OMM
KC2MJT - What a comedy of errors. Set up Yaesu 817 on deck with an endfed random wire. Heard plenty of members on 20meters - palm paddle went kaput. Ran downstairs to get straight key. Got the straight key working, no signals on 20m. Went to 40m and my Elecraft tuner refused to tune. Packed up antenna, radio, straight key and headed to shack. Fired up IC703 fed into my rain gutter and increased PWR to 5w and finally grabbed a QSO at 0111.
KI4DEF - First time on the bands for ages (10+ yrs). Appropriate that it was for a mW Sprint! One vy nice QSO (tnx Mark! sri fer rough fist--using KK5PY Micro-Key as SK). Answered KW2A several times but no go.
K1MZM - Thanks to KM3D for my one 80 QSO. The band was very noisy and signals were hard to find. 40 meters started out slow then got better for a while before it dried up for me. A fun challenge to work through the noise.
N8HWV - 40m in decent shape. 20dB atten inline with coax and I still hear you fine. Brings my 20W down to 200mW out. Thanks. Lots of fun.
NF8M - Op time 1 hour. Dialed my FT817 back to 500 milliwatts and confirmed on the station wattmeter. Somewhat noisy condx on 40, tried 20 but no luck, listened on 80 but too much QRN. All east and midwest stns. Hi to WB8LZG the pipeline must be open to mid Mich! Tnx fer digging me out & coming back to my call. 72 es CUL
K9NUD - First NAQCC sprint for me, regardless of power. I set my KX3 @ 1W and ran a frequency. Digging out fellow mw QRPers was lots of fun!
WD4CFN - Thanks for the Q's! QRN was heavy tonight. Running KX2 at 1W.
KN1H - This sprint found me camping in Salt Rock State Park in Baltic, CT. Threw a lopsided doublet in a couple of trees and the KX2 did a pretty good job of tuning it on 40 and 20. Didn't expect much from 900mw and this set-up, but there are a lot of great listeners out there! Used the ElectroVoice 605/U straight key. This is a modern mostly plastic knock-off of the venerable Vail Correspondent of the 19th century. It's very light and works smoothly. 73, John, KN1H/1
KC5F - With the QRN and static crashes, 40m seemed like it would be bad, but ended up pretty good. (Unlike 80m!) Thanks to all - lots of fun, as usual!
WA2NYY - 40m was the band tonight. Missed first hour of sprint because of other ham activities. Signals were amazingly strong for 1 watt. Was able to work most everyone I heard. Tonight was one of the better mW sprints here in upstate NY.
72 Mark
W5WIL - Talked to the wind for awhile at 200mw. Finally cranked up the KX2 to 500mw and made a few contacts. QRN on 40 was constant 59+. Interesting but I need an aspirin... Dennis
K5WX - Seemed like poor conditions. But glad I could hear a few of y'all.
N2HTT - Haven't done one of these in quite a while - 40m was very lively with a surprising number of mw stations. Lot's of fun - thanks and 73 all.
K4KRW - I used my OHR-500 tonight. It isn't much on creature comforts. My KX3 would have been a lot easier on my ears. A lot of static crashes here. But the 500 is still a lot of fun to use. Begali Pearl paddles. I managed one contact on 20m. Everything else was on 40m. I tried 80m a few times but never got anyone. Best signal was WA3RSR right at the end. Thanks everyone! Richard
K9DRP - Ran my mcHF at 1 watt. The first hour was tough! Heard a lot of stations that couldn't hear me. Almost gave up after an hour thinking I had a problem, but finally logged some QSO's. Nice to see the amount of activity. 72 Don
WA4AAK - My first mW Sprint - enjoyed it very much! Tnx to all. 72,
Evan WA4AAK Alabama
WG8Y - Hi all, Started half hour late.Stayed on 40M. Worked 5 Q's in 15 minutes then a phone call and a walk the dog. worked the last half hour and worked 7 more. Sorry on a couple I just couldn't pull out.
Hi to John KN1H. I heard your 1H the first time & knew who it was back asked for the fill to make sure. Hi Hi
Used my KX1 app 900MW. J38 key in to trapped 40/80 D @35 FT.
It's all Fun. Take care all.
72 from N.C. Mark WG8Y
WB9HFK - First off - sorry to those that I just could not dig out of the QRN and QSB! There were some exceptional QRPp signals on 40M at times!
Lots of fun, and see everyone in the next Sprint! 72, Mark WB9HFK
W4NLT - First attempt at the mW event. Heard many of the usual suspects but many did not hear me. High QRN level made copy difficult for my one working ear. Thanks for the QSOs I was able to make.
72 and see you oinkers next.
K8NGW - The noise, the feeble signals, the multiple repeats. A mW contest in the midst of a CME! No wonder people question my sanity!
K6GPB - Fun challenge with both stations working with 1W or less. Need more like ops on the air.
KC3RN - This was my first mW sprint. Lots of fun. I was surprised how strong some of the signals were. Had to quick after the first hour, but enjoyed the time I had on the air.
WA3RSR - My first sprint at my Maryland QTH. Noticed a lot more action than at my West Texas OTH (WA3RSR/5). Started a little late and broke for a quick dinner. All signals were 559 or better. Heard some lower, but they were harder to decipher. At the end I tried sending information slow and then again fast. With QRP sometimes I can copy faster better (staying ahead of QSB) and sometimes slower is better (more time to spend guessing before next character comes in).
WB2LQF - Those of you who are older and retired may be more able to understand this: I lost track of where in the month of June I was, thought this was a regular sprint and enjoyed a great night with my FTdx10 at 5 watts and my Cootie...until I went to submit my log and realized this was the QRPp sprint! I'm even more impressed as I reflect of the really strong signals I heard tonight. The band seemed crowded with "CQ NA" activity.
KR8L - This was my first milliwatt sprint. Operating with a straight key (which I haven't done in quite a while) brought back memories of my days as a Novice (WN9PEQ). I had a blast! I've had a lot of success at the 1.5 to 2 watt level in my QRP career, but I was still astonished by the contacts I was making with 500 mW. The bands weren't as noisy tonight as they were for last weeks sprint. Still, nothing heard on 80 meters, and 20 meters seemed to dry up toward the end.
WD4OHD - Pretty rough going this evening on 40m: QRM, QRN, QSB, etc. Thanks to those who hung in there nonetheless.
AC5XK - Sorry I couldn't copy a few but thanks for repeating and trying. Let's do it again!
W4ELP - My first MW sprint. It was fun in spite of very poor conditions. Didn't hear anyone on 80m.
KE5YUM - Great sprint. Running 1 watt to my FT817 to my 80 meter dipole at 25 feet.
KM3D - Had 1/2 hr and rockbound SP-1 Spider kit. Made only ONE qso and was amazed at that! My 800 mw was heard; mni tnx K1MZM. This was my 3rd Sprint attempt.
WB8LZG - Hello Fellow Sprinters ! Great night for mw sprint. I fired up my K2 at 900mw on solar pwr. I started out on 20m to find KE5YUM calling. After sending my info, I got a few letters, and he was gone. Tried for several mins to hear him, 20 was dead. 40 was a bit noisy but lots of wee peepers to work. Had the Beeline into PA,NY,and IL last night,as I worked 3 or more in each of those states. Almost all short skip, the longest QSO was N5GW, in Miss. Had a good string of QSOs calling CQ and was surprised at how LOUD some of the stns were. many of the peanut whistles were true 599. A pleasure to work many old friends tonight. Worked N8FM in MICH who I don't usually hear at all,and John K3WWP who I hadn't worked in a while so that was nice. A big welcome to KR8L #10791 who was not yet in my logging program and threw me fer a bit. hee hee Sorry to several of you who called me and I didn't pick out your call. Many times there were 2 and 3 answers to my CQ's. So that alone was fun in a mw sprint. Had 22 stns in the log when I pulled the plug at 10pm. and could have had a few more but I was dog tired. Always fun to see what Flea Power will do. Hope to hear many of uu on for FD. 73 Gregg WB8LZG
WI8J - Signals were strong on 40M! N0TA was +20 on 20M at the start of the sprint. Used the IC-705 at 1 watt. Thanks for the contacts! 72
K1IX - Lot of noise here to start with but band got better as time passed. Tnx for the Q's ...-.-
AA0W - Fair conditions on 40m. Good to work the regulars. Welcome to K9NUD good signal into NE.
Wilderness Radio NORCAL 40A @1W battery pwr
KA2KGP - Good band conditions on 40m. only here in WNT this MW sprint. 20m. was nil & 80m. was heavy QRN. A fun run! 73 to all
WT4U - Over half my QSOs were in the first and last 15 minutes, with the rest spread over half an hour of straining to hear the same calls on 40m. AC5XK was strong out of DC, but never could hear me. Tried some CQs on 80m. RBN caught them, but if anyone replied it was deep in the QRN. A great time as always. One-fifth the power, half the QSOs, and twice the satisfaction.
WA2FBN - First sprint with my new Xiegu X5105 rig. Used straight key and EFHW sloper. Only worked 40 meters; bad noisy. Tnx to all 72 Ken
KC3MIO - Checked QRZ a couple of hours before the sprint and all bands listed as poor with Geomagnetic Field "Min Storm" and s4-s5 noise level. Did not look good for QRPp. But contacts could be made from here in PA, even though it did take a lot of repeats to get some call signs. Longest contact was non-member in SD on 20 - only one other contact on 20. Nice to start out with K3WWP - #2 on 40. Apologies to VE2VAB for tough copying his call. Working on QSO with K9DRP as time ran out but the clock hit 0231 so no soap. Lots of fun as usual and I've gotten the one watt bug. Thanks to all the QRPp enthusiasts and the NAQCC, as usual.
K4JPN - The QRN was heavy on 80M and 40m, but was pleased to work VE2VAB on 20M. After I worked VE2VAB on 20M did not hear anyone else, finally gave up at 0200Z.
KD3CA - Band a bit QRN here at times, sorry to those I couldn't pull out. Only one contact on 20 mtrs
was with John N0TA in CO. All other QSO were on 40 mtrs. Many Thanks to all for the calls.
73 Don
KG5ZID - QSB was bad but I heard a lot of signals anyway.
W4LSV - My first mw NAQCC Sprint. Neighbor was on vacation, so no RFI from his big screen TV. Operated 30 minutes on 40 meters and 3 stations were able to copy my 900 mw from my Horizontal Loop in Attic Called several others, but they my Attic Loop made it difficult for the other stations to hear me.
KB1M - KX3 @ 500 mW. Nice to work KN1H from CT even if not in home state of NH. Very thankful for the much needed rain this evening but not the QRN crashes that came with it. Definitely not a night to use a preamp, not being able to pull out answering stations as well as I would like to, went QRT early. 72, Walt
AB9BZ - Fun sprint, thanks for the Q's 73 ab9bz
AK3X - Had a little over an hour to play. I thought 40 meters was pretty good. Signals were mostly strong. IC7300 attenuated to 1 watt, Speed-X straight key. Fun time.
72, Peter
KJ4R - Started out on 20M and was amazed at the good signals. A few I worked had solid 599 signals and sounded more like a KW than a mw. John, KN1H, was portable in CT, and his signal here in SC was great. 20 was in good enough shape to allow 2 West Coast contacts, NS3C in CA, and KC7DM in OR. I checked the RBN and had a 53db report in VE2 land and a 9db to LZ so propagation was good, at least to my corner of the world. Anytime I can work the West Coast on less than a watt, or be heard in EU, things are looking up! 20 died out for me at around 0100, so I moved to 40 and worked pretty much everyone I could hear. Did not try calling CQ on 40. Never could find a good clear spot to try. Good to see the band filled with "CQ NA". Nice to work K5WX, W1TER, and NQ0RP, for the first time. Always enjoy the sprints and appreciate the club members who work to make them possible. KX3 at 900mw, Vibroplex bug, and 134 foot EFHW. 73 to all.
W2SH - I called N0TA, the only signal heard on 20m, but no luck. All QSOs were on 40m. I tried 80m, but there were no signals heard, nor any answers to my CQs. 600 milliWatts from a
Tentec 539 (Argo 6), Junker straight key.
VE3EDX - Worked first hour only. 3 QSOs, 2 on 20, 1 on 40. Didn't hear any thing else. thanks and wish everyone a great summer.
KN2G - After last week, with only one contact at 5 booming watts, I pulled my antenna down, changed out the coax and resoldered everything. This time, pumping out a frugal 500 milliwatts, I claimed nine contacts! It is like magic every time I turn the 817 on! 80 was dead for me, 20 faded right away, but 40 was meat and potatoes this sprint!
WA1GWH - Aways like the mW sprints! Dusted off my SW-40+ single board kit and ran it at 1W. My 4SQRP Cyclone 40 has a class E final stage so the power cannot be turned down from its 4W. Thanks for the contacts and repeats! 72, Garry
N5GW - KX3 @ 900 mW to doublet. 20M was good for a change. 40M not too noisy. However I was pooped after a long day so dropped out the second hour.
