Tonight's thought was "That wasn't too bad, but it could have been better." I wasted a lot of time on 20, but did get an extra multiplier in CA there. 40 started out long and slow. First two QSO's were OK and AR, then it shortened up and the next 3 were IN, NY, NY. A lot of noise here though made it rough. I think a lot of folks missed out by not going to 80 later in the sprint. Some VERY strong signals there that easily overrode any noise. I think with a little more S&P and a little better use of the bands I could have done better than 30 QSO's and 21 mults, but..... hindsight is always 20/20. KC0PMH - Once again what a blast. Thanks to all the ops who answered my CQ and especially thanks for the honest reports. This is addictive, and so much fun! Once again the Swedish Pump got a good workout. If I didn't have a really early start in the morning I'd have stayed the full 2 hours. I'll be back again, can't get enough of this Radio Stuff. Now I see why people buy a K3! Lots of traffic out there, thanks gang. KB1PBA - My mistake. I sent 4596 as my NAQCC# to everyone until NO2D caught the error. Should have sent 4576. I trust those contacts will not be penalized for my error. (Nope - K3WWP) N8ZYA - I decided to do it differently tonight, and use 1 watt for my contacts. This was a lot of fun! Used the paddles instead of the straight key. I heard a LOT of stations tonight but only worked a few. Still LOTS of fun and the bands seemed to be in great condition. N5RDN - 40m real good and 20m even better. Thanks to all that cud copy, great fun! 73, Rob KE9DR - Like last month 20 was good the first hour then switched to 40. Heard lots of both weak and strong signal on both bands. 80 was void of any NA stations, that I could hear, just some nets operating. 80 did have moderate QRN. Again it was fun. Tks to all. 73 Bert. WD8KRV - Only was able to get on for about 45 minutes (40 Meters) but great fun as always. Hearing stations from all over, but signals were not exceptionally strong. Decided to only hunt and pounce instead of calling CQ like I normally do. Nice change of pace. KA6AIL - Lots of fun tonight. I am hearing more stations from the 6 area, keep it up guys. C U next month 72 AC8AP - I sure did get in late, just the last half hour. I hit 40, 20 and 80 and bagged five. The last one at the last second. NX1P - at my noisy Seattle location, s4 noise level, short wire and my pro3. Still, pretty amazing what you can work work with just 5 watts! KB0KFX - Only got to operate about an hour, but had a great time this month on 20m. Unfortunately my 80m receiver gave up the ghost during the last 10 minutes of the contest. Rig: Argonaut V. Thanks for a great time! 72 K3RLL - How nice to hear 20 meters open tonight, and with good signals. 40 sounded good down here in FL until the digital lids came on over top of everyone. Still fun, however. 73, ... Don N3PDT - Another fun sprint. Only 8 contacts, but certainly a well-spent 2 hours. 20m was pretty good here for the first 90 minutes or so, but 40m didn't seem to cooperate much. Thanks again for a great event. W2JEK - got home late from a meeting and had just got the rig going when my xyl said she saw lightning, so i shut down. was ready to go on a little later when the glass globe from the ceiling fixture fell and smashed. after it was cleaned up got on with only a few minutes left. hope next month will be better. 72 and 73 don younger w2jek #1135 NA4O - First Sprint in a long while; very nice to be back! (Great to have you back. Hope you can be a regular from now on - K3WWP) AA7CU - Worked the Sprint from Arizona W5YDM - Wasted a lot of time on 20m where the signals were good but only two answered. Guess trying to work 20m on a low coax fed 40m dipole isn't the best way to go about it. My multipliers were low because everyone seemed to be in just a handful of states. K6CSL - Wow! Great band conditions. I believe this is a person best for an NAQCC Sprint. (Yep, your previous best was 72 points in April 2010 - K3WWP) This was fun. 40 was quite noisey with lots of QRM from RTTY and "piccolo" digital signals. Bert K4ORD - Well that was fun, made 12 qso's on 20M and 20 on 40M. the noise level was pretty good here except a little qrn at times on 40M. Ran my new K3 at 5W, trying to get used to all the dsp controls on it. Activity was pretty good tonight. Until next month 72/73 Riley KB3AAG - I seem to have done better than I expected. It has pored rain in the hollar all day! And it still is! The little branch that flows past the cabin that I can normaly can step across is about to enroach on the back yard! I only found one on 20 and 80 was bad noise so pretty much a 40 contest tonite. I shure wanted that 40th contact (and he was there, a zero station that I just could not dig out, sorry om)but it was just not to be.Gobs and gobs of fun tho. Thanks to all! Frank AE4RV - Well that was fun! I remember being overwhelmed the first couple of sprints but achieved a new personal best for the second time in a row. Lots of great signals and honest 599s. Back to the 746 Pro for this one and I sure appreciated the extra filtering tonight, the bands were crowded, especially 40. Apologies to KE9IX - we completed our exchange but I clumsily hit the VFO knob right before saying TU dit dit and had to guess where I was, sorry if I got it wrong and left you hanging. Thanks to NW2K for the last-second QSO - we got it in just under the wire at 02:29Z. I missed John K3WWP last time but got him twice tonight. A real 599 on 40 and 559 on 80. I wish these sprints were twice a month! (As if John wasn't busy enough...) Oh, also, for the first time I worked some non-members, four of them. Thanks for participating and consider signing up - it's free! WX4RM - 20 and 40 meters were in excellent condition tonite, 80 was DOA. The 5BTV vertical with 16 radials was pulling in QRP signals easily tonite, but the digital signals on 40 still made it difficult at times. I enjoyed this sprint alot!! K9PL - PFR-3, J-37 and newly-constructed NEScaf audio filter. NEScaf was great help; excluded QRM and boosted audio output. Conditions good: QSOs on 20-meters and 40-meters. K4DXV - Lots of fun! Missed the March sprint and might miss May due to Dayton. Worked the full two hours and set a new record for myself -- 25 QSO's...woohoo! Thanks to all who worked me. WB4MNK - Fun contest and the bands were in good shape. AE7CG - On 20M after 0200Z band conditions changed, and there was more QRN and few Sprint stations heard. It is always fun for me to work the NAQCC Sprints here in north central Arizona with my MFJ Cub (2 watts) and dipole mounted at 10 feet high! 72 & 73, AE7CG, NAQCC #0523 NO2D - A wild ride! 20 meters was good. I switched to 40 meters and it, too, was lively, and where I made most of my contacts. Heard nothing on 80 meters. My apology to KB1PBA for stealing his run frequency. I thought he had gone. I yielded it back. This was one of my best sprints in a long time. Thanks to all. Pete WB6HVH - Yep. One Contact. Didn't know what this NAQCC was. Found out. Tried, but domestic duties took over after one contact! :) W5IQS - Bands were GREAT. Lots of stations on and good code. This Sprint is one to remember. Thanks, 73 Evan KU2US - Didnt do as good as last month, but still had fun. Again! pile ups and crowding made it hard, but shows greater participation. 20m was good, but 40m was the best for me. 80m was workable, but I had higher noise levels. Most Long distance on 20m to west. Worked a non member station with his 1 watt from Texas on 20m which was quiet. Had a blast! KB8FE - Worked 40 and 80 meters this sprint! KB3AAG and KC2EGL both peaked S9+5. And only two contacts were S5. All the rest were in between. Rather nice conditions. But I must say the summer static is coming back! Worked 8 states and that is an improvement. So all-in-all I would say it was a nice NAQCC Sprint. I am just starting to get my end-fed 80 meter inverted L back up into the trees. The previous winter winds took it down. N5NK - Thanks for getting my member number set up in time for me to play in this Sprint. I had my doubts as to whether I could compete with only 5 watts and a simple wire antenna but after a slow start, things built to a flurry of action at the end. Lots of fun! In the past, if I wanted to work 20 meters I just fired up all 100 watts and used a tuner to load my 40 and 80 meter inverted vees. If I was going to go QRP that just wouldn't do. For this Sprint I made a new homebrew 20 meter dipole and tied one end of it to my lanyard and hoisted it to the top of my 50 foot mast. I anchored the line from the other end about 10 feet out from the mast. Construction was completed just minutes before Sprint start time and the first QSO was for the log. I'm pleased with its performance. With a resonant antenna, not so much of the signal was wasted heating the tuner. The game was over before I got tired of playing! I'll be back! I started on 20 with my FT817. Thanks Keith,K0HJC,for the first qso as the phone rang. I then talked to my wife for half an hour from Vancouver. I brought my "fancy" tv dinner in beside the key and was happy to catch Will,K9FO,through the S8 noise level. Thanks Mike,AB0TX,for a third qso on 40 as time was running out. Only 3 contacts but I enjoy the chance to meet new and old friends on these and other sprints. Thanks very much for the reminder e-mail to-day. Until next time - 73 - Brian N4OLN - I had a little trouble getting use to GEN-LOG but it will get better. There was too much clutter on 40 meters with the digital modes. May want to consider moving the freq for 40 meters up about 10 kHz. 80 meters was not populated that much and 20 meters was just right. I liked this sprint and look forward to another. AI4SV - Heard a ton of west coast stations on 20m, but only worked one. 40m was bustling with activity. Some qrn, but the noise reduction worked amazingly well this time. Didn't get to 80m at all this time. This contest was the first time I have used a straight key on the air in a couple decades -- apologies to my victims. K1NAJ - Very enjoyable Sprint. Can't wait until the next time. Norm KA2KGP - QRN was high on 80m. with no contacts there. 20m. was open a bit & 40 was just OK. Rig: Icom 7000 at 5w. into AT-7000 tuner with either a 5 band gnd. mtd. vertical on 20 & 5 band dipole up 25' on 40. 73's WB8ENE - 80 meters seemed dead at the beginning of the sprint, so I spent most of my time on 40. I did manage to make a couple of contacts on 80 and one on 20. Thanks for two bands Mike, KC2EGL. Enjoyed the sprint. See you all next time. 73, Art KQ1P - Great to have 20M open for the sprint. Just as the sprint started the antenna wire separated in my connector. Fixed it and it broke again. Used my noisy Zepp antenna instead and finally got my inverted vee connected during a slow spell. Until next month, 73. WB8LZG - K2 @ 5w Hello agn to all the sprinters. Condx were vy gud here in Mich. last night. I started on 20m and got several of the western states i dont usually catch. Went to 40m abt 9pm es it was packed ! wall to wal QRPers ! nice to here all those stns. I was doing alright abt 7.046 until W1AW code practice started up ! 40 was very noisy here but no lack of stns to work. My appoligies to several guys who answered my CQ's es i didnt come back to YOU, some times i had 3 es 4 stns answering my call. (i love it when that happens !)Iwent to 80 later on es worked Karen W4KRN es Keith KB8FE, but not much activity there even though the band sounded great. So i went back to 40m to grab 6 more QSOs before pulling the plug. I couldn't stay around so my score does not reflect band conditions although both could have been better. WB2VEN - First NAQCC Sprint for me. Checked in for a few 15 minute sessions. Very noisy here, but I was surprised at the activity. Had trouble getting through to some stations calling CQ NA. Seemed like there were some pileups! Had fun, even though I only logged a few QSO's. Maybe with paper it's rough - I don't know - K3WWP) W8DW - Missed last month, was on vacation. 20 Meters was so so, 80 noisy but did OK on 40. Good sprint hope for better next month. N1IMW - First time working 20 meters . . .I always used 40. . .couldn't find new contacts on 20 after an hour then I switched to 40, got one contact, then decided to take a 10 minute break but it turned into a 5 hour snooze! Great time as always on our outstanding weeknight sprints! VE5BCS - The band was almost to busy then quickly went dead and nothing on 40 I enjoyed VE3HNE - Have not been on this contest for some time, but I am back now and had lots of fun. Not many signals, but good signals and low noise. 80M was too noisy at this location so only 40M and 20M contacts. Thanks to all who pulled my K2 @ 5W with a low dipole signal out of the noise. KU4A - Awesome signals! Nice to see the skip getting short again on 40m. Had a nice run on 7242 (7042? - K3WWP). Thanks for all the Qs, sorry if I missed anybody. WT6P - Thank you all for the most fun I have had in years! This is my first NAQCC sprint and I am getting back into CW after years of RTTY and SSB fun! This was a great experience and look forward to getting the feel of the paddle again! Too bad we don't have these sprints more often, hi hi. N8XMS - I only had about 15 minutes to get on the air, and for those 15 minutes conditions were really bad with a lot of QSB and QRN. Hopefully I\'ll have more time to play next month. 73 W4DUK - Was only able to work the Sprint for about an hour, but still very enjoyable. Started on 40 and then moved to 80. 73 de Dave NQ2W - Had a great time...both 20 and 40 were pretty good here in Albany. 40 was a little noisy but manageable. I'm not sure I liked the logging program. I may have logged some incorrect "RST Sent" because of being unfamiliar with the program. Seemed to be a nice turnout! KA5TJS - Only the second Sprint I have tried. Not bad for a non contester. I used the SW40 at 2 watts for the whole thing and did have fun. The band was not bad here. With the front they day before I expected a lot more QRN. I will probably try it again next month. Hope to see you'all later. Thanks to the XYL for sharing me between the Navy and Ham Radio/QRPing. AA9L - Best sprint in a long time. Must have been the new Kent hand key. Dipole did not work well on 20 even with tuner. Once I went to 40 it was non-stop with some pileups. Sorry for the stations I could not pick out. Next time. W2SH - Possibly I've registered a first-ever in a NAQCC sprint: two consecutive QSOs that produced consecutive member numbers! The QSOs, 10 minutes apart, brought forth nos. 5356 and 5357, and not only do those numbers adjoin in the member list, but so too, geographically, do the QTHs, NM and AZ. (I recall a couple folks working me and Tom #1 and #2 consecutively in a couple sprints a long time ago - K3WWP) 20m was open but unstable loud signals would often not respond. QRM was heavy around the 14.060 mHz "honey spot" and that reduced my "run rate". 40m was very noisy but became quieter towards the end. Its skip went long and from NJ I was surprised to work two AZ stations, back to back, both with fairly loud and clear signals. 80m was a real disappointment. I visited there twice and only heard K6JSS/8, calling repeated CQs from MI using the QRP ARCI callsign. For me it was a quick QSO and a hasty band change NW2K - GenLog is great and makes life easy. The NAQCC-GenLog tutorial was perfect. Several 20M QSOs; delighted to work KU2US on 20M, my "next door" neighbor! Thanks to AE4RV for the steady fist and adrenaline rush late in the game as the clock ticked down. Fun!!! AE5KM - The bands are really picking up, lots of competition and RST reports were a lot higher than in the past. And I finally worked the famous W5YDM, one of the people that have helped me learn CW. The ionosphere was finally good enough where NVIS was working between us. KG4YLZ - I need to play with the log a bit in order to be comfortable during the sprint. Have been keeping paper log and putting into the log after the sprint.. AB0TX - Got a late start but had a great time like always. Haven't made a sprint for some time due to wire antenna repairs and high spring winds preventing a tower climb. Test driving a new Icom 7200 and getting used to its filter settings. 20 meters just kept producing for me so I stayed there for a long time. Worked some on 40 and ended there. I didn't get to try 80. I heard lots of signals. Some really strong. Lots of 599 signals. Ran the paddle because of an unreliable straight key cord. Needing to verify 5 watt setting on the radio is for sure 5 watts. Thanks to all that worked me! 73 VE7YU - Lost power after first hour. Finished up using weak gel cell and a candle for light. Condx on 20 poor and nothing heard on 80 or 40. N9KR - Good conditions again this month on 40. Great to hear lots of new calls working the sprint. WB3T - Didn't have a chance to get into the game until late but still had a few Q's. Just glad to take part anyway! Hopefully next month I can place higher!?!? 80m SW Plus and K1 for 40m. K9FO - Hi All, 20 was good while it lasted and then 40 was a little noisy but OK. nice to hear so many in the sprint. Rig: Tentec Orion at 5 watts, a Tri-band rotating dipole @ 35 feet and a 40 dipole at 45 feet. KC2EGL - Things were going well for the first hour and 25 minutes of the sprint. Then mother nature arrived in the form of a very nasty blowing rain storm and blew over my support mast for one end of my dipole. The ground was so saturated that I could not get my pegs to hold down the legs of my tripod. Fortunately things have dried out a little. The mast is now back up and staked down.
