It is the time of year for our Thanksgiving dinner and we all have our family favorites to look forward to. What about that first feast in the Plymouth colony? Well there was turkey, pie, cranberry, potatoes and all the other good traditional stuff, wasn't there? Maybe not. If you ask the historians the table probably looked a lot different. Although nobody knows for sure, some of the likely entrees are the challenge for this month. Bon appetit.
The first day of the month 0000Z through the last day of the month 2400Z
Simply make all the words in the list below, not including the comment in parenthesis, from the call signs of stations you work to master the challenge. NO contest or sprint QSO's allowed. QSO's must be made using CW and QRP.
ONION HERB STUFFING ( No bread, just onions and herbs! )
The 84 total letters contain these 23 different letters: A B C D E F G H I K L M N O P R S T U V W Y Z
You can use each letter in a call TWICE. For example you could use K3WWP for 2 K's, 4 W's, and 2 P's.
Subsequent QSO's with the same station cannot be used for additional letters. For example, no matter how many times you work K3WWP, you can only use his call for 8 of the letters in the words.
See General Rule #5 for more details on what callsign letters can be used.
See the Alphabet Tutorial page for an excellent way to track any and all of our alphabet type challenges.
A certificate and Participation Point go to everyone making all the words and submitting their report before the deadline.
A Participation Point goes to everyone making at least 1, but not all the words and submitting their report before the deadline.
A choice of an item made by master woodworker Gregg WB8LZG as shown on our prizes page here goes to someone selected via a random drawing from all who participate and submit a report for this month's challenge. A person can only win once, then they become ineligible for future drawings.
For your report, list the words you made and the station used for each letter in the word. The number of stations listed must be the same as the number of letters in each word, even though you use the same station for more than one letter as in:
WORD - K3WWP, N2OD, WA8REI, N2OD
Note how N2OD is listed for both the O and D.
You may also include comments about the challenge. Please preface any comments you want posted with "SOAPBOX:" so we will know what you want posted and what is private.
Send your results as text to: (Please be sure to use the horizontal layout as shown above.)
You must type that address into your email program.
Subject must read: (your call) NAQCC (month) Challenge
For example: K3WWP NAQCC February Challenge
Hap - K7HAP

Annandale, VA 22003
All entries must be RECEIVED before the 10th of the following month at 2400Z.

N3CU: This was the first time that I participated in a NAQCC Challenge, so I needed to read, then re-read the rules, to make sure that I was logging & tracking the information properly. Since the band conditions are not what they used to be, it was a little more challenging in making QSOs with QRP than it has been during the past few years. I found it to be fairly easy collecting letters in the beginning, but fairly challenging at the end. For some reason, the letter "G" was elusive for quite a while, but as I was scanning the bands, I heard VE3MG, made the contact, and secured the last letter for the Challenge. I am still working on the European Challenge, and hope to have this one finished by the end of the month. Thanks to all who make these challenges possible! They are a lot of fun, and give us one more reason to get on the air with QRP!
K3WWP: This was a laid-back effort this month. I didn't really go searching for letters, but just took the QSOs as they came. I was much more concerned about working on my DX streak which will reach (if I make it) 1,000 consecutive days on November 25, the day before Thanksgiving. I hope I have that to be thankful for. This challenge really brings back memories of the very early days of the NAQCC. Other than Get Acquainted Week in October 2004, our first challenge (called 'event' then) was the November 2004 "You're a Real Turkey" event in which you had to simply spell one word, TURKEY to master the challenge. You could do it in several ways though. I'm not going to go into further details. You can see for yourself on the challenge results page by scrolling all the way to the bottom and clicking on the next to last results link. We sure have come a long way in 11 years with our challenges in addition to all the other facets of the club. I'm still a little disappointed that more folks don't participate in the challenges. I find them a tremendous amount of fun and they do serve to get more CW on the bands, at least certainly from me. I challenge everyone reading this to try the December challenge. I'm sure you'll have a ball.
K7TQ: All of this month's challenge was on 20 m with 1 Watt. The S's took the longest.
KA2PBO: Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Thanks again to the NAQCC staff of volunteers! 72 Rick
PA0XAW: Great challenge this month with a lot of letters to chase for!
WA2FBN: Fun challenge. The Ss and Us were the hardest to get this month. 72 Ken
N4IVE: Groovy, I got all the words this month. I must say, Having grown up in New England I'm used to clams (stuffed Quahogs) on the table for Thanksgiving but Eels? I'm open to new things, I would love to hear about someone's eel recipe for Thanksgiving! I'll trade you a stuffed quahog recipe! 73s & Enjoy! David Gale
N9SE: This month I decided to try completing the challenge operating 100 percent QRP mobile. I can tell you that it certainly qualified as a challenge! I had to work really hard on the 30th to get the last five letters, but it sure was fun. Equipment: KX3, Tarheel 100A
N8XMS: Well, I came up short again this month. I need to figure out a way to get more on-air time for myself! At least what I did was a lot of fun.
WH7TT: Good to be back after a long absence.
K1YAN: Tough month for hamming. Major house renovations have relegated the shack to a 50 degree unfinished basement and seriously cut into available operating time.
K1IEE: Another great challenge and a wonderful way to get on the bands no matter what the predictions are. Thanks to all 73 Dick
W2JEK: A GOOD CHALLENGE. LAST LETTER NEEDED WAS ANS. 72 AND 73 DON YOUNGER
