Soapbox:
K3WWP: Took a bit longer to complete this month (May 7), but I did it with 100% DX stations. These challenges are so great in their purpose, at least for me. I definitely get on the air more when I have a challenge to complete. They are so enjoyable, and so well... challenging at times. It seems like there is always one letter that delays the completion by a day or two. This month it was E. With only 5 Es needed to finish, I finally found and worked XE1RZL and XE1/VE7BDI on the 6th and 7th to complete all the words.

W4TZM: This was my first attempt at an alphabet challenge and I had a lot of fun with it. I like the puzzle aspect of it and it give me a good reason to spend time on the radio developing my CW skills.

How did I master the challenge? I just had fun, working lots of DX stations and not worrying about compiling letters until later in the month. In fact, not worrying about compiling letters at all! I needed 22 different calls and 14 countries to complete the sweep. Countries represented were USA, Italy, Russia (Europe), Slovenia, Cuba, Ukraine, Belarus, Germany, Croatia, Hungary, Venezuela, England, Austria and Canada (BC). I think I'm going to have a tough time with next month's Challenge though. I don't get much "action" on the WARC bands, but I'll give it a try anyway. It's probably a good incentive for me to try "harder" on the WARC bands hihi. I'd say 95 percent or more of my QSOs are QRP. Probably closer to 98 percent. I really enjoy it when I work a station running 500 watts or more and I get as good or nearly as good an RST report with my humble 5 watts! I think it sends a good message, too, that power isn't everything. 72, Rick

VE3HNE: Had lots of fun doing the May challenge making a lot more contacts than I normally would. Hope I can do as well in the next challenge. Thanks to all those people working behind the scenes. Walt

N8XMS: This is the first time that I have managed to complete one of our alphabet challenges using all DX call signs! (That is assuming Canada counts as DX for 4 letters.) I think that it is fitting that I actually finished the challenge on Memorial Day. My sincere thanks to all who have served our country! 73, Paul

AB9YC: My first challenge, and it took a bit to get it in gear. I started late in the month but hit it hard; I just ran out of time in the month.

K1IEE: Another great challenge. Thanks 73 Dick

W2JEK: WAS A LOT OF FUN WITH QSO'S WITH 5 CONTIENTS. WORKING A45XR IN OMAN FOR A " NEW ONE " WAS ICING ON THE CAKE 72 AND 73 DON YOUNGER W2JEK #1135

VE3FUJ: I don't know what happened to May? All of a sudden it was gone, and I still had words to complete. Bummer. Brion 3011

PREMISE:
This is one of two months in which we have a day honoring those who have served our country in the armed forces. Our challenge relates to that this month. It's an alphabet challenge with the names of the branches of our armed forces and other related words.

TIME FRAME:
The first day of the month 0000Z through the last day of the month 2400Z

RULES:
Simply make all the words in the list below from letters in the call signs of stations you work during April.

AIR FORCE
ARMY
COAST GUARD
MARINES
NAVY
ENLISTED
OFFICER
WAR
PEACE
VETERANS

The 18 letters involved are: A C D E F G I L M N O P R S T V W Y

You can use each letter in a call TWICE. For example you could use K3WWP for 2 K's, 4 W's, and 2 P's.

Subsequent QSO's with the same station cannot be used for additional letters. For example, no matter how many times you work K3WWP, you can only use his call for 8 of the letters in the words.

See the Alphabet Tutorial page for an excellent way to track any and all of our alphabet type challenges.

AWARDS:
A certificate and Participation Point go to everyone who masters the challenge and reports their results before the deadline.

A Participation Point goes to everyone who participates but doesn't completely master the challenge and reports their results before the deadline.

PRIZES:
Some challenges involve a prize. Check the Prize page in the main section of the web site for more info.
