Email ![]() SOAPBOX: K3WWP - After 40 was a failure with what I was sure was a busted QSO (it was), I decided to just put in a single band effort on 80 meters. 80 was quite good, although not a lot of folks seemed to come there. I don't know why, as it looks like with a few exceptions, most folks' 40 meter QSOs were down this month. 80 was so good, I even worked VE5BCS there as my third QSO. I wonder if I have the best single band 80 meters score (2160 pts)? HI. I might just check that after a while. It was a lot of fun doing a single band effort. Pretty much a single frequency effort also as I was on 3560.5 until near the end when another station started to CQ on 3560.6 and after that I did a bit of S&P and called CQ on a couple other frequencies. Thanks to my friend John K4BAI for a 'just under the wire' QSO at 0329Z and a new mult as well (GA). W9UX - Extremely poor condx at this QTH. 72, Terry #0033 KB9BVN - Only had time for the first hour tonight. Was on 7042 the whole time, but man was it ever fun. I haven;r done one of these in a long time, it was great!! Used the old straight key, a Nye Viking Master Key and the K2 at 5w to my attic dipole. Thanks for the great fun! KQ1P - Well, I almost got skunked but managed to complete one QSO. Many strong signals received but not much success in reversing the RF circuit. WA2EDN - Used my old WWII Aircraft key. Had a great time even thought I had to quit at 10pm local. AB4QL - I wish I could have spent more time. . . thanks to all who suffered through my "hand pump" efforts!!! K4KRW - Pretty brutal conditions here in Charlotte, NC. Lots of noise and not many signals, most of those weak. Still had a good time though. Thanks! K0BXB - My first attempt at one of the sprints. I began with a little ten-tec r4020 but very quickly decided that the bandpass, though 400hz was a problem as signals piled on top of each other. So I switched to my Icom IC-7000 and turned the power out down to 5 watts. With the very narrow filter I could pretty easily copy the stations. One thing I struggled with is people are pretty stingy with there calls so it is sometimes hard to know who you are talking to! Overall it was fun and I'll do it again. NO2D - Sprint coincided with Fox Hunt, so split my time. Got some of each! Always fun. NO2D, Pete. KB0KFX - Just in time for the last 10 minutes. Son came to be a few minutes before the start to fix the CD drive on his Xbox. Got the Xbox licked, but a short sprint. Maybe next month and one for the log count. N7EDK - This was my very first NAQCC sprint, I'm still pretty new to CW, but condx for me weren't great tonite ! I'm always working on Tue nights, so I never get a chance to get in here. I just happen to be home tonite, and gave it a try. Only one contact thou, I could only work for an hour.It was fun thou, maybe another time. Thanks to John, K7DJO my only contact, I hope you got my info correct ! 73 de Ed N7EDK in Marana,AZ. W2HWW - A truly great Sprint. I was amazed that so many stations heard me on the first call. Conditions on 40 and 80 were great. W5YA - Good fun !!! Hopefully by the milliwatt version I will have the 80 mtr antenna back up ;-) 72, Fred - W5YA (op KT5X) N3LL - Sorry I Missed a few guys calling due to the QRN hear in Florida from the T-storms, but it was fun as always, glad I finally had some time to play around tonite. Bobby W5YDM - Many signals coming into Texas, as usual. So many that it's hard to figure out if it's me they're calling. Worked lots of very weak signals...John and Don, you were both down in the soup but a good radio pulled you out. Missed some just due to getting so many callers at one time. (Get a low indoor antenna in a noisy location and you won't have that problem, believe me. HI HI - K3WWP) Finally worked my nemesis, W5IQS. N5NK - Is it just me? I'd sure like to move the 40m segment somewhere away from the digital folks. They evidently don't hear qrp cw signals and they lay down a blanket of sounds that completely covers up our distant weak signals. I had fun but sure think I could have had more up the band. (It's really pretty much the same everywhere on 40 except maybe down in the Extra Class segment. And if we keep moving, eventually there will be NO CW space left at all, so keep fighting and don't give in to the digital/SSB bullies. - K3WWP) AA4W - What a turnout! 40 was crowded! Thanks to N0AZN in NE for digging me out on 40. Other than NE and NM on 40 I didn't hear much from out west. I worked V31JP (one of our newest members) as the clock was running down. Thanks Joe. 'was great to see some DX in the sprint. WX4RM - I knew I was in big trouble when the contest started and 20 was dead, and high qrn on 40 and 80. Thanks to all who had good ears to pull me out of the noise. Still had fun. W7YSB - Could only work 4 different stations from Tucson. 4 on 40m and repeated 2 of those on 80m. All were in nearby states except for K4BAI in GA. There were a couple more where we could not complete the exchange. I hope condx will be better for mw sprint later this month. 73, Eldon W5CUB - seemed condx were alot better in november, still fun NY4G - Great sprint tonight on 80m as the band was relatively quiet and the 5w signals were strong. Surprised no one went to twenty. Tnx to all who participated. KB4QQJ - Another fun sprint! Odd conditions tonight. Not one dit on 20 meters. Then 40 was active and going well and I had to QSY for the MD net. He asked nicely and I moved. Glad to see polite NCS's are alive and well. Lost my stride on 40 and moved to 80 for all but one last Q before end of sprint. Thanks to N5NK for the last second contact on 80. Lots of 20 over signals tonight. Good to work some of the regulars and several new members. Got a new low number too. #33 cool. Sorry I couldn't pull the ?bc? out but QSB would not let it happen. Rig- K2@ 5w Key- Navy Flameproof straight key Antennas- PAR EndFedz end fed half wave dipoles for 80/40 and 20 at 33 feet. Thanks to all and see you next time. Randy W7GAH - I have been absent from the sprints for a couple of months, shack changes and health problems seemed to occur during sprint times. I had a rough sprint tonight. Working with a new rig, K2. Conditions seemed poor on 40M, heard numerous weak stations but most did not hear me. Same for 80M. Had a few near contacts but couldn't quite make it. Thanks W5YDM for your efforts, hopefully next time. Looking forward to the comments to see if others had a rough one, or if it was just this operator. Still had fun as always. K9PL - Conditions poor, very QRN, few stations heard. Pleased to be able to work all the stations I could hear. PFR-3, NEScaf audio filter and J-37 key. K4ORD - This was a fun sprint, made 14 qso's on 40M and 29 on 80M heard nothing on 20M at 0200 when I checked, but on 80M had a great run and the noise was low and my new dipole helped there also.Nice to work VE5BCS on 80, he was weak but we made it. Thanks for all the qso's and happy holidays to all. 73 Riley AD6JY - Pretty tough conditions here tonight! K9EYT - Worked the Sprint from the mobile parked in central Florida 1200 miles from the home QTH, I didn't want to miss out on the fun. The rig is a 706 Mk2 with 5 watts into a single band Hustler mobile antenna. 40 meters was very busy the first hour of the sprint. With the Midwest states very strong. KD4UKW - I missed most of the sprint -- was hoping to make at least one sprint QSO while simultaneously hunting the foxes in tonight's QRP foxhunt. Well, I never heard a fox until 20 seconds before the end of the foxhunt, but I heard a lot of CQ NA calls! W2JEK - got on late again. conditions not good 40m was noisy and had bad qsb. 80 was better with steady signals but also noisy. 72 and 73 Don Younger W2JEK #1135 N0AZN - Great fun with 500mw I had S7, S8 noise floor on 80m and 40m. I tried 20m for a short period with no luck. Thank you all for pulling me out of the mud. Special thanks to Richard AA4W for the last minute Qso... 73 to all... N0AZN Scotty/Nebraska KB9ILT - Not the best conditions for me tonight as propagation was up and down on 40 meters. A couple of times while running, a station seemed to answer my CQ, but was really replying to someone else on the same frequency. Of course, I couldn't hear that station. I really wanted to put a call from WA into my log for the multiplier, but I think he was working someone else. Hi Hi. As usual, the sprint was great fun and ended just as I was getting warmed up. Two hours sure goes by fast. Happy Holidays, see you next year! WA1GCT - QSB here tonight was horrible. Sometimes it was 20 over 9. Most of the times it was 10 over 9. Worse conditions I`ve ever tried to work a contest. Hopefully it will be better next time. W8BI - Been awhile since I joined in one of these. Our antennas are evidently better suited for the after-dark conditions. Charlie KA8OQF (op DARA Club Stn W8BI) WA4ZOF - got a late start , lot of strong signals tnx to all TOM WB4MNK - Sure had a lot of QRM/QSB on 40 but had a ball. Thanks to all I make contact with and hope to hear you next time. AA7EE - Was unable to make any QSO's in the 2nd hour, though I heard many signals hiding just underneath the noise level. Have just built a K2, and it was a pleasure to operate in the Sprint. K4BAI - One QSO (VE5BCS) on 20M. (Also heard AA7EE, but no QSO.) 19 QSOs on 40M. Band very good from IN and further away. Best DX: AZ, ON, ME. 80M was very good too with no skip zone. Best DX: CO, MA. Thanks for all QSOs. Happy Holidays to all. 73, John V31JP - Work and other obligations got in the way, but got on 40M with 30 minutes to go and work a non-member, then AA4W called right before the end. Wished I had been able to get on at the start as I just repaired my antennas that came down while in the States for 3 weeks. I was using my new (to me) 1955 Blue Racer Deluxe. I hope the next time to use my 1912 Vibroplex Original that I am restoring right now. The QRP modification to my IC-765 is working well, but still a cobble job. I have a high noise problem here on 160 through 40 and I have to have my receiver bandpass really tight to copy, especially weak signals. K9FO - Hi ALL, Breaking in a new log program (Writelog) so was slowed up a lot trying to learn it. This sprint is a good one to learn on.Nothing on 20 so did 40 and 80 for an hour each. Was on wrong antenna for a few QSO's. HIHI. 73/72, Will K9FO N9RLO - I had a good time tonight. 40 meters was in pretty good shape; good thing because 40m was all I had to work with. It got to be slim pickins around 10pm, I think everyone went to 80m around then. Anyway, I got 14 QSOs this time, which is a record for me. I'm looking forward to next month's sprint. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all! 73 John N0TA - Really slow here - quit after the first hour. K3, vert & doublet, GenLog. KA2KGP - Another nice sprint, good conditions on 40 & 80 but 20 was nil. Good to work my old friend Paul WB2ABD. I hope to see you all again in the Milliwatt Sprint next week. 73 to all. N2ESE - Great Sprint 80&40 Very strong here in NJ,heard nothing on 20m. THANKS- 73 Gary WD8RYC - My first time and it was a joy. Had problems with antenna. Hope to do better next time. Thanks to all for a great job. AA9L - What happened?! I got a slow start on forty but then things started to pick up. QRM, lot's of stations answering my CQ's at once. Then the bottom fell out. I thought my temporary field day antenna fell down (it's still up). I couldn't get on 80 due to my temporary antenna. I actually gave up a half hour before the end of the sprint, very unusual for me. Better luck next time. KE5YUM - I enjoyed the sprint tremendously. Signals were strong and plentiful on 40 meters. For some reason I worked a lot of new call signs this month, and for that I am especially grateful. Thanks to all who worked me. All the best for a blessed holiday season, Terry KD2MX - A pleasant evening. I had a lot going on so my operating time was limited. WB8ENE - Thanks for the contacts, and thanks to the people who make these sprints possible. Happy holidays. 73, Art W4DUK - Came into the sprint late. Made a couple of contacts on 40 (conditions not good here), then moved to 80 until closing time. 73 de Dave K9KHJ - Better late than never. New job = new stress = need for post work workout. Arrived late but know every log is important, so jumped on for a couple minutes to contribute to the count. At least with 3 QSO's, I might claim a Golden Log. Less chance of goofing it up. K1IEE - I got a late start so decided to get on 40m and stay there. First sprint with my new off center fed antenna it had less QRN then the G5RV. Thanks WB4MNK for getting it done between data QRM. KE4UN I got your info but could not copy a reply QSL Thanks to all 73 Dick. K2GLS - Another fun Sprint. I only heard a few very weak sigs on 20m so started on 40m this month. However 80m turned out to be alive with strong sigs so I should have spent more time on 80m. Live and learn how the propagation changes with season. 72 to all this holiday season. WF5W - WAS FUN BUT RIGHT HAND GOT TIRED, TOO LONG BETWEEN TIMES USING STAIGHT KEY HI... GOTTA DO IT AGAIN !!! CAL WHITE VE3FUJ - I don't think I've heard condx like I had last nite since I came back to ham radio in 06. The ambient noise level were very low abt S 1-2 but nearly all signals heard were weak to weaker, 4 stns stn stood out W7OM he was a 559 and W4FOA was 569 VE4WI and N7YY started at 569 but went 239 at the very end, and just 15 mins earlier I think he was trying to get me but all I could make out were N7xx. I know I missed a couple of stns. sorry guys, for the rest, thanks fellows for hanging in there. The strange thing was, out of 12 Qso's 8 were US call area 4. One stn only from PA K3RLL was so weak I had to ask for repeats. I were able to run my rig wide open without getting fatigued by noise, and really I had to! Absolutely unheard of at this QTH. So Happy Holiday to all and may you all have a good 2012. Brion WD4E - I was (almost) by myself on 20M. Nice to see so much activity on 80. As usual, a fun sprint. VA3RKM - Had not participated in a weeknight sprint for a long time due to work. Fun to be back. Good signals on 40m. N0BS - My first sprint and contest effort in a long time - had a great time. Had 4 people calling at once at times - sorry to the ones I missed. 20m dead. 40m started out pretty good, but decided to try 80 just to see what the activity was like. 80m was strong, best dx was VA to WA. Ran a Flex-1500 and the great filters were a big help. Nice to work a couple locals K4ORD and K4UK. I'll be back!! 72, Tom W3NP - I found that band condx were exceptionally poor overall. Nothing on 20, very little on 40. 80 meters was the only good band for me. It started out slow but picked up at the end. KB4QQJ Randy was very strong at the end. I used my new Ten Tec Eagle for the first time in a NA sprint. Ran about 4.5 watts through the Viking KW Matchbox, 600 ohm open wire to the dipole. Keys were the Nye Master key and the Bencher straight keys. 73 de Dave W3NP in WV. KI8AF - Been a long time since I've participated in a Sprint. Enjoyed myself but realized how bad I am with a straight key. More practice needed so that means more Sprints. WS1V - My 1st taste ,not enough time to load + learn GenLog, heard lots of stations, but lots of noise also. Fun time !! look forward to the next one to make a better effort. Cheers KD0V - The conditions on 40 meters were very good in southern Minnesota until 0245Z and then the band fell apart. 80 meters was not very good. Used a Leg Clamp J37 during the sprint. Using it did not cause any problems with my carpal tunnel. The Leg Clamp J37 was recommended to me by a Doctor who had been in the Army Signal Corp and whose brother had been a ham. Anyone that is having wrist problems or carpal tunnel, might just give Leg Clamp J37 a consideration. There is always one or two on eBay. KB8FE - 40 meters was kind of 'punky' here in northern Ohio. Sort of 'washed out' sounding. Not too many signals heard. The weather was not bad at all. I'll try for the 'Golden Log'! KB3AAG - Seemed to me the activity as down a bit. Perhaps some were at Wallyworld. I heard nothing on 20 and forty died early, 80 was fine here! Thanks VE7YTE you made my evening! A new westbound record from my hollar, last month NV and this month AZ maybe next month HI? I can dream. Hope to see yaul next week! Frank AA7CU - Worked the sprint from Arizona. VE3XT - Thanks had a good time, but condx not as good as they could have been. Bill CO8CML - Bad conditions in Las Tunas, only a few QSO's on 40m.But the most important thing is being in the contest and submit the log.Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!!! I Hope see all of you next year in the sprint!! K0EUN - My first-ever Sprint plus using GenLog - terrific! VE3EDX - One QSO on 20m, W5IQS in Texas. Very strong signal but only one on band. 4 QSO's each on 40 and 80. First time use of Gen Log. N8XMS - A cold got the better of me and I only lasted 15 minutes but at least I can submit something for our log count. Merry Christmas to all! KU4A - Just had a few minutes for this at an intermission of my hockey game. Condx were OK but not as good as recent Sprint nights. W4JVY - HAD TO LEAVE BEFORE SPRINT WAS OVER. SIGNALS WERE GOOD HR IN AL THIS TIME. N8QY - This was the best sprint in a long time . 80m was hot all night at my location and 40 had a rtty station that made it hard to copy much. I did work n0unl/ unv of Nebraska and K6jss/4 QRP Amateur Radio Club International. NQ2W - Ten-Tec Jupiter at 5W to an inv vee at 40ft and a ground mounted vertical. Started out on 20m but heard nothing and no one answered my CQ's. (If I use a gain antenna and make no contacts with it do I enter in the Gain Category or the SWA Category?) Moved to 40m and worked stations from across the south. Big thrill to have Carlos - CO8CML - answer my CQ for a FB DX QSO. Moved to 80m and worked a few more FB QRPers - that vertical gets better and better with every added radial! Thanks to everyone for your participation and a special thank you to John - K3WWP - for his dedication. Looking forward to next month - hope to hear you all during the NAQP. Happy Holidays! 72/73, Will N9SKN - Tryed it for fun. Thanks for saying "Hi" in the contest too. Aaron AK3X - 40 sounded good at first with WB4MNK booming in. Most of the rest of the sigs were weak and the band was very noisy. Also discovered some interesting RFI coming from the new washing machine! Gave up after about an hour, but still had fun as usual. DSW-40, MFJ CWF-2 filter, Emtech ZM-2, speaker wire fed 40 Meter inv vee. 72 til next month K4JPN - Got a late start, and did not hear anyone on 40M, fortunately 80M was hopping. Hope we can soon have the sunspots back and start using 20M in the evening. 73, Steve W5PJW - All contacts on 40 as 20 seemed dead and 80 was too noisy. Lots of QSB as others have noted. FT450 turned down to 5 watts and a J-38 key I've had since my novice days. KA6AIL - Late start, but had to make a go at it. NU7T I hear you on 80 but I was on the wrong ant. See all next year. W2SH - 20M was unstable and I quit after five minutes. 40m was very busy; in fact too much so. I checked 7.030 mHz a couple of times, but there didn't seem to be any sprint action there. Things went along nicely until what seemed like the noise from the ignition of a neighborhood furnace drowned out all but the strongest signals. Being thus forced to QSY to 80m proved a salutary event, for I was greeted by lots of activity and much less ignition noise. NW2K - Fun sprint. 40M was full of activity and I kept losing the frequency (15 QSOs). SRI to the OP at ~0140 on 40M when SSB QRM nuked the QSO. Moved quickly to 80M and was noisy here but signals were very strong (35 QSOs). Thanks to All and Happy Holidays! See you next time. 5W, matchbox, 80M loop at 30 feet. K6JSS/4 (NU4B) - it always seems like 80 is the best band during the sprint. Thanks for all the QSOs. Rig: K2; Merry XMAS everybody - NU4B VE5BCS - 20m went out after 5 min. 40 was dead. 80 was very noisy. I thank all who pulled me out. I was going to give up many times. Tnx John you made my day with the write up. (You're welcome. I don't often work SK on 80 except for the big contesters with the big contest stations like VE5MX, VE5SF, etc. You may be my first ever 80M SK QRP station worked. - K3WWP) Merry Christmass to all. One more sprint for this year. W9GFB - Great fun as always hard to find clear spot with digital guys at the start. KD8HES - Wow. Terrible condx on 40. Too bad I don't have the 80M band module for my MFJ-9200. I only put in 20 minutes when the digital crud/noise/tiredness from busy day forced me off. Thanks KB4QQJ for the lone Q. 72 ~Zeke~ K7DJO - I received an eQSL from a SWL in Germany who gave me a 599 on 40M. He confirmed hearing my QSO with K7BX. Bands closed up a little early here in Utah before the sprint ended. However, I still had tons of fun! 73, John NM1I - first contest with you guys. Rig was a Ten Tec Jupiter at 5 watts and antenna was a 160 mtr inverted L. Enjoyed test and look forward to more of them. dit dit Butch N8VAR - I only heard 2 calls but they were talking to number of people that I could hear so I'm seriously thinking of calling cq next time. KE7YTE - Looking forward to the next time. AE4RV - 40 seemed off tonight especially later on. 80 was the best it's been in a long time. Great fun, thanks so much for the opportunity to participate. WG8Y - Hi al,40 wasn't as hot for me this month,80 sounded great.suprised how well my homebrew 40-80 was hearing everyone. Heard some relly great stations.Still hopeing to try the MW sprint later this month from near Charlotte,NC while at my daughters. Will be portable with a homebrew endfed.72 & Merry Christmas from WG8Y in Ohio WB2ABD - Log file from latest version of GenLog substantially different from format requested: lots of editing ... hope it's OK. (Note - It turns out after several email exchanges that he was actually using a version prior to 6.57 because of a shortcut problem on his computer. The latest version was installed, but not being linked to in the shortcut. - K3WWP) See General Sprint Rules for rules common to every NAQCC sprint.
