I did take a little time to actively hunt for the last two P's that I needed. VA2EPR - I had a lot of fun operating portable this month on 40M with my FT-817ND and recently completed PFR-3A. I made a fair number of contacts, but without P, O, and G, I was only able to spell QUEEN. 73, Thomas VA2EPR NAQCC #2846 K3WWP - Like Paul, I thought all the P's would make this a hard one, but today (8/21) I worked HI8A for the last I, and then K4HPP for the last 2 P's. That leaves 2 P's left over if anyone wants to borrow a couple. HI. KB1PBA/P - Using portable operation in Acadia National Park in Maine. All the contacts made on 2 days with about 4 hours total operating time on Beech Mtn and Saint Sauveur Mtn are listed. Abt 4W with PFR-3A. A vertical 33 ft LLD on 20, 30, and 40m. VE3FUJ - I never got that last " i " for King, of course I could rob a Knight or a Bishop, but instead I chose to play the game without a King, at least I could not be Check Mated. HEE HEE This one was challenging I got a P and I in the 11th hr and I nearly made it, I made contact with a call containing an " I " unfortunately he faded out before the qso was completed. So I had to do without the King. Looking forward to the September challenge, and all that comes after. Brion K1IEE - Had a good time with the challenge. It took me most of the month to accomplish, with the letter P being the last letter to get. Thanks to all, 73 Dick W2JEK - lots of fun with mostly dx calls. worked wa3nzr Sunday evening during power failure using my ohr-40 rig with battery power after hurricane Irene passed through. 72 and 73 Don Younger W2JEK #1135 KD8HES - My first try at a monthly challenge and it came down to the wire. WA3MIX gave me the last ' I ' I needed for KING with about 15 minutes of operating time left. ~Zeke~ PREMISE: As with astronomy back in the July 2010 challenge, a lot of hams like to play chess, so this alphabet challenge deals with chess pieces as did the September 2010 challenge. TIME FRAME: The first day of the month 0000Z through the last day of the month 2400Z RULES: Simply make all the words in the list below from the calls of stations you work to master the challenge. NO contest or sprint QSO's allowed. QSO's must be made using CW and QRP. There's a twist in this challenge. Since there are more than one of some pieces in one side of a chess set, you must make the word that number of times as shown here in parentheses in the word list: PAWN (8) ROOK (2) KNIGHT (2) BISHOP (2) QUEEN (1) KING (1) There are 16 words containing a total of 73 letters. Here is a list of the different letters involved: A B E G H I K N O P Q R S U W (15) You can use each letter in a call TWICE. For example, K3WWP could be used for 2 K's, 4 W's, and 2 P's. Only one QSO with a station is allowed. Working K3WWP a second time would not give you any additional letters. All QSO's must be 2XCW and you must use QRP power. The station you work can be using any power. AWARDS: A certificate goes to everyone who makes all 16 words. PRIZE: See the Prizes page in the Home section of the web site to see if any prizes are involved. PARTICIPATION AWARD AND WEB LISTING: To get a Participation Point and to be listed on the web site you must make at least one word and report your results. LOGS: For your report, list the words you made and the station used for each letter in the word. The number of stations listed must be the same as the number of letters in each word, even though you use the same station for more than one letter as in: WORD - K3WWP, N2OD, WA8REI, N2OD Note how N2OD is listed for both the O and D. You may also include comments about the challenge. Please preface any comments you want posted with "SOAPBOX:" so we will know what you want posted and what is private. Send your results to: E-mail: You must type that address into your email program. Subject must read: (your call) NAQCC (month) Challenge For example: K3WWP NAQCC September Challenge Postal mail: John Shannon, K3WWP 478 E. High St. Kittanning, PA 16201 All entries must be RECEIVED before the 10th of the following month at 2400Z. |
